ITIL® Foundation Bridge Version 5
Build on your ITIL 4 knowledge. Move to the next generation of ITIL.
ITIL® Foundation Bridge Version 5 is an intensive training course for professionals who already hold ITIL® 4 Foundation and want to update their knowledge to the latest version of ITIL.
This is not a repetition of ITIL 4.
The Bridge course focuses on the new, changed and expanded concepts in ITIL Version 5 – from digital product and service management and new value creation models to Value Streams, AI, AI Governance and the updated structure of the ITIL Value System.
After successfully passing the official PeopleCert examination, candidates receive the ITIL Foundation (Version 5) certification.
Who is this course for?
The course is designed for professionals who already hold:
• ITIL 4 Foundation, or
• a higher-level ITIL 4 qualification, with the exception of ITIL 4 Cloud and ITIL 4 Sustainability.
Participants do not need to go through the entire ITIL Foundation syllabus again. The Bridge programme builds on existing knowledge and focuses primarily on the delta content between ITIL 4 and Version 5.
What is changing with ITIL Version 5?
ITIL Version 5 expands its focus from traditional IT Service Management to Digital Product and Service Management.
The new version places greater emphasis on:
• Digital Product & Service Management
• Value Co-Creation
• Product & Service Lifecycle
• Value Streams and Value Stream Management
• AI and automation
• AI Governance
• digital operating models
• value management throughout the lifecycle
• integration with DevOps and PRINCE2
• continual improvement in modern digital organizations
PeopleCert describes the Bridge route as an accelerated path for ITIL 4 certified professionals that focuses specifically on new and updated content.
What will you learn?
Module 1
New Concepts in Digital Product & Service Management
We will begin with one of the most significant changes in Version 5 – the expansion of ITIL into digital product and service management.
We will cover:
• Digital Product & Service Management
• Product and Service as core concepts
• Digital Product
• Digital Service
• Goods
• Utility
• Warranty
• User Experience
• Sustainability
• Continual Improvement
• ITIL Product & Service Lifecycle
• Service Offerings
• Service Actions
• Transfer of Goods
• Access to Resources
• Service Interactions
We will also examine how these concepts differ from or expand upon the familiar ITIL 4 model.
Module 2
Value Co-Creation and Service Relationships
In Version 5, value is not simply viewed as the result of an IT service being delivered.
We will explore how value is co-created between the organization, suppliers, customers, users and other stakeholders.
Topics
• Value
• Value Co-Creation
• Output vs Outcome
• Cost
• Risk
• Experience
• Sustainability
• Service Provider
• Service Consumer
• Digital Product Vendor
• Customer
• User
• Sponsor
• Service Relationships
• Basic, Cooperative and Collaborative Relationships
• Service Journey
• Service Quality
• SLA
We will work with practical scenarios to distinguish output, outcome, cost, risk and value in real-world business contexts.
Module 3
ITIL Product & Service Lifecycle
One of the key changes in Version 5 is the new way of looking at lifecycle management for digital products and services.
We will study the eight lifecycle management activities:
1. Discover
2. Design
3. Acquire
4. Build
5. Transition
6. Operate
7. Deliver
8. Support
We will examine:
• the purpose of each activity;
• how activities support value creation and delivery;
• how they connect with the Value Chain and Management Practices;
• why lifecycle activities should not be viewed as a strictly sequential process;
• how they are used iteratively in modern organizations.
The PeopleCert syllabus explicitly treats lifecycle management activities as non-linear and iterative.
Module 4
ITIL Value System – How Value Is Created
We will build on the knowledge acquired in ITIL 4 and explore the updated ITIL Value System.
We will examine its five key components:
• Guiding Principles
• Governance
• Value Chain
• Management Practices
• Continual Improvement
The focus will be on how these components work together, rather than treating them as isolated concepts.
Module 5
Guiding Principles and Governance
We will review the ITIL Guiding Principles and place them in the context of Version 5.
We will explore:
• interaction between the Guiding Principles;
• how the principles support decision-making;
• how they are applied in dynamic digital environments;
• the use of automation and AI in applying them.
We will then examine Governance:
• what governance means;
• its role within the organization;
• how governance supports the management of digital products and services;
• how it connects with the Value System and organizational governance.
Module 6
Value Chain, Lifecycle Activities and Management Practices
We will connect the new lifecycle model with the ITIL Value Chain and Management Practices.
We will cover:
• Value Chain
• Operating Model
• Product Specification
• Product Prototype
• Test
• Release
• Service Request
• Continuous Integration
• Continuous Delivery
• Continuous Deployment
• Reliability
• Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
• Observability
• Disaster
• Error
• Problem
• Known Error
We will also examine the role of Management Practices within the ITIL Value System.
The focus will be on how practices support Value Chain activities and value creation.
Module 7
Value Streams – Mapping & Management
Version 5 places strong emphasis on how work actually flows through an organization.
We will study:
• Value Stream
• Core Value Stream
• Enabling Value Stream
• Value Stream Mapping
• Value Stream Management
• Complexity Thinking
• workflow optimization
• the relationship between Value Stream Mapping and Value Stream Management
We will work through a practical example of mapping a value stream – from a user need to the achievement of a business outcome.
Module 8
Continual Improvement
We will build on the ITIL 4 model and examine Continual Improvement in the context of Version 5.
We will cover:
• ITIL Continual Improvement Model;
• the steps of the model;
• how it is used in a real organization;
• how Continual Improvement integrates with the ITIL Value System;
• how improvement activities connect with Value Streams, Lifecycle and Management Practices.
The focus will be on transforming continual improvement from a separate initiative into a continuous organizational capability.
Module 9
Four Dimensions of Product & Service Management and AI
We will review the Four Dimensions and place them in the context of the new generation of digital products and services.
We will cover:
1. Organizations & People
• roles;
• competencies;
• culture;
• organizational structures.
2. Information & Technology
• information;
• technology;
• automation;
• AI;
• data-driven decision-making.
3. Partners & Suppliers
• ecosystem;
• suppliers;
• partnerships;
• dependencies.
4. Value Streams & Processes
• workflow;
• processes;
• value streams;
• work optimization.
We will also examine internal and external factors that influence the four dimensions.
AI in ITIL Version 5
AI is not simply a standalone technology topic in Version 5.
We will explore:
• Artificial Intelligence;
• AI Maturity;
• Generative AI;
• Agentic AI;
• the use of AI across the product and service lifecycle;
• AI-assisted automation;
• AI in Value Chain activities;
• AI Governance;
• the ITIL AI Capability Model;
• risks and controls associated with the use of AI.
The goal is not to turn participants into AI engineers.
The goal is to understand how AI can be used as a capability in the management of digital products and services and how it should be governed responsibly.
Module 10
ITIL and Other Modern Frameworks
ITIL does not exist in isolation.
We will examine how Version 5 integrates with:
• DevOps
• PRINCE2
• Agile ways of working
• modern product and digital operating models
You will see how ITIL and DevOps can complement each other throughout the product and service lifecycle and why project management remains important when implementing change and transformation.
Practical Component
The training will not be purely lecture-based.
We will work with:
• realistic business scenarios;
• IT and digital service case studies;
• Value Stream Mapping;
• lifecycle activity analysis;
• Value Co-Creation scenarios;
• AI use cases;
• Governance case studies;
• PeopleCert-style questions;
• comparative exercises ITIL 4 → ITIL Version 5.
The main objective is for participants to be able to recognize the new concepts not simply as terminology, but in the context of real-world situations.
PeopleCert Exam Preparation
At the end of the training, we will provide focused preparation for the official ITIL Foundation Bridge (Version 5) examination.
We will cover:
